There's no place like home.
Every detail of the new Hospice of Wake County campus has been designed with great care to address the needs of patients, families and communities dealing with loss -- from the home-like feel of the rooms to the serene landscaping woven throughout the campus.
For Patients.
The 19,000-square-foot hospice home is a welcoming space for patients and families. The 14 acute care beds and six residential beds are worlds away from the cold, institutional spaces so many of us fear. Instead, they expertly hide all of the equipment necessary to provide care within rooms that offer all of the comforts of home.
The rooms are also larger than hospital rooms and accommodate overnight stays by family members. Each has a private bath and opens onto a semi-private patio giving patients direct access to the healing elements of nature.
For families.
There is also space set aside just for visitors and loved ones including a playroom, living room and kitchen. Several other rooms are available for quiet reflection, counseling and meditation. To provide for the needs of working family members, there is a home office area as well, with desks and outlets for laptops and phones.
For all of us.
The more than 26,000-square-foot community building features an auditorium, a lending library, meeting spaces and a bereavement center for adults and children. It provides space for people to meet regardless of whether their family members were served directly by Hospice of Wake County, for community education programs, for children to take part in play and art therapy sessions and for adults to participate in counseling programs.
The 1,000-square-foot sanctuary is available to families who are facing the loss of a loved one and open for special services of remembrance, support groups and trainings.
